Crowdfunding update from the Vice Presidents

3rd August 2020

As the Coronavirus took hold in March, the country went into lockdown with many workers being furloughed as a result and we saw football devastated by the pandemic. We could see the consequences and the financial impact this was going to put on every football club in the country.

The Vice Presidents acted by announcing that they were launching a Crowdfunding Appeal to raise money to assist Steve Watson with the building of a squad and development of the young players at the club. The cost of the pandemic to the club has been significant with no income being generated therefore any money raised would be appreciated.

The appeal raised just over £15,000, with a very generous donation of £1,000 from the Supporters Trust – from the outset the Vice Presidents agreed to match the figure raised, providing they had the funds to meet the final figure.

Following discussions with Steve Watson at a recent Board Meeting, we have agreed to use the money raised to support and develop the members of the youth team who will be stepping up and being active members of the first team squad. The money will cover their development, wages, and expenses over the forthcoming season. The club is keen to develop and hopefully improve the young talent we currently have at the club, coaching and developing their skills around the first team squad.

On behalf of the Vice Presidents, I would like to thank all those who donated to the Crowdfunding Appeal. With the help of the donations, the Club could find the next young talent to come through the academy system.
