Agnew aims to climb table with City

28th December 2018

New arrival Liam Agnew hopes his promotion-winning experience will help City climb the table during his stay at Bootham Crescent.

Former Sunderland midfielder Agnew, who made his debut as a halftime substitute against Darlington on Boxing Day, has joined City on a month's loan from last season's play-off winners Harrogate Town.

Speaking ahead of Saturday's Vanarama National League North trip to Blyth Spartans (kick-off 3pm), Agnew said: "I know what it takes to be part of a team to get out of this league - and that's what York's ambitions are.

"I think we have got players in here who can turn this situation around. Maybe one or two additions might make us even stronger. After the Boxing Day result, we just need to go back to basics, do the basics well, and that starts on Saturday."

Reflecting on his first 45 minutes in a City shirt, Agnew said: "Two nil down and a man down, coming on at halftime, it's not the easiest situation to come into. On a personal point of view, I thought I did alright but, at the end of the day, it's a team game not an individual game so we will be looking - as a team - to rectifiy that this Saturday and build on positive results."
