City reserves in five goal victory

By Ian Appleyard | 13th February 2018

Manager Martin Gray was given plenty of food for thought this afternoon as the club's reserve team beat Hartlepool United 5-2 at Bootham Crescent.

A trialist striker bagged a hat-trick, new signings Marcus Williams and Vinny Steels made first appearances in City shirts, and Clovis Kamdjo took another step towards a possible first team return.

There were also a number of impressive displays by players currently on the fringes of the first team including striker Louis Almond - who played his first 90 minutes since returning from a three month injury lay-off - and winger Connor Smith who scored one of City's five goals.

City, who included two trialists in attack, had been trailing by two goals after just 11 minutes of this Central League North fixture but showed great character and determination to turn the game around.

Smith started the fightback before 'Trialist A' scored an impressive hat-trick. A deflected own goal by a Pools defender made up City's final tally.

Kamdjo, making only his second appearance since returning from cruciate knee ligament surgery, played 71 minutes in the centre of defence.

Leftback Marcus Williams played 90 minutes following his arrival on loan until the end of the season from Guiseley.

Teenage winger Vinny Steels was introduced for the final 20 minutes after joining City from Darlington.
