City to hold extra scholarship trial

By Ian Appleyard | 6th March 2018

York City Football Club is to stage a new scholarship trial for Year 11 school leavers seeking to become professional footballers.

The decision follows the success of the trials held last month which resulted in several players being invited to train with the club's Academy.

The latest trial will take place at the York Sports Village on Thursday April 5 between 1pm-3pm.

Anyone interested in attending must register first via

The deadline for registration is 5pm on Monday April 2.

Successful trialists will be offered scholarships, starting in September 2018, on either the YCFC Sport with Football Technical Diploma Level 3 (full-time two-year course) or YCFC Sport Coaching and Leadership Level 2 (full-time, one-year course), depending on previous academic qualifications.

Both courses will allow you to study and learn while playing U18 football for York City FC in competitions including the National League and FA Youth Cup.

Training will be provided by UEFA Pro and UEFA 'A' licensed coaches. The opportunity will be there to secure a professional contract with the club during the scholarship and bursaries are available on acceptance of place.

Please note, these trials are aimed at boys from the Yorkshire and Teesside areas, born between September 1, 2001 and August 31, 2002. Boys who attended the February trials should not re-apply.

Anyone needing more information should email the club's Sporting Director Dave Penney at
