City enter the battle for signatures

By Ian Appleyard | 17th May 2019

Assistant-manager Micky Cummins says the club is currently trying to finalise deals for players who have offers higher up the league ladder.

"We are in conversations, second and third conversations, and offers are on tables," he said. "The players that we have targeted are of a really good standard that would improve our group and they will have options further up, higher up than us.

"We feel we have identified the right ones," he said. "It's just trying to move those negotiations along now to get them over the line."

Bury midfielder Scott Burgess (pictured), who impressed on loan last season, is still on City's wanted list and Cummins said: "He has gone away to think about things. Scott did really well for us and grew stronger as his loan progressed. He is someone we would like to keep around and he gives you a different dynamic in midfield."

Burgess, meanwhile, has won City's 'Goal of the Season' award for his spectacular strike against Kidderminster Harriers.

Burgess secured 60 per cent of the votes in the club's online poll with Simon Heslop's strike against Southport (21%) in second place, and Alex Kempster's goal against Spennymoor Town (7%) in third spot.
