Burrow looking for personal best

25th April 2019

Captain Jordan Burrow is aiming to reach a personal milestone when City host AFC Telford United on Saturday at Bootham Crescent (kick-off 3pm).

Burrow bagged his 18th goal of the season in Easter Monday's 3-1 victory at Bradford (Park Avenue) and equalled his previous best return for a season with FC Halifax Town three years ago.

"I am very pleased, personally, with how many goals I have got this season," he said. "A couple of months ago, I was probably thinking I would have scored a few more by now - but it's not really happened for me in front of goal over this last spell.

"The lads around me have been scoring and I think I have been contributing, playing in the first phase of the attack and flicking on or bringing in the lads around me. However, on a personal note, hopefully, I can get a couple (on Saturday) and get to that 20 goal mark."

Striker Burrow, who has also played for Boston United, Morecambe, Stevenage, and Lincoln joined City last summer from National League side Gateshead.

He admits that he is 'disappointed' to have missed out on promotion this season but believes the future is bright under new manager Steve Watson.

"The over-riding feeling is disappointment about where we are going to finish," said the 26-year-old. "When I signed for the club, the aspiration was to get out of this league but that's not materialised.

"But the people I have spoken to are really looking forward to next season and can see the progression we have made.

"I think when the Gaffer gets one or two in that he wants, we can have a good year next season. You can now see the difference in performances, we look like an attacking side that always wants to scores goals and get into good areas."
