Burgess reunited with former boss

By Ian Appleyard | 25th January 2019

Loan signing Scott Burgess is looking forward to working under manager Steve Watson for the second time in his career.

Midfielder Burgess, 21, spent three months with Watson last season at Macclesfield Town.

Although Watson, who was the club's assistant-manager, subsequently moved on to Gateshead, Burgess stayed to help the Silkmen win promotion to the Football League.

"It was a very successful season and we ended up getting promotion from the National League," said Burgess, who joined City on loan yesterday from League Two side Bury until the end of the season.

"When he was there, he was very good with me, always encouraging, always trying to get the best out of the players, and that's why I am looking forward to working with him again."

Describing his style of play, Burgess said: "I am a central midfielder, I like to get on the ball, help the team, move it around the pitch, pass forward, create chances, and hopefully chip in with a goal when I can. I like to play attacking style football so hopefully I can come and help the side."

Burgess, who has also played on loan for Wrexham, Stalybridge Celtic, and Norwegian club Bersoy, has no reservations about dropping down to National League North.

"It's about playing games. It's always competitive and I am looking forward to playing and proving that I am good enough," he said. "I think this is a massive club and not where it should be. With hard-work and the team and staff that we have, we can hopefully get it back up where it belongs."
