York City FC Talent Hub established at Thirsk School

By Dan Simmonite | 21st October 2020

We are delighted to announce a unique collaboration with Thirsk School & Sixth Form which will forge a pathway for talented boys and girls in North Yorkshire going into Year 7.

The school, in partnership with the club, will deliver a new football programme which will form part of the curriculum from the start of a student’s secondary school journey.

As part of the Talent Hub, a proportion of the student’s timetable will be delivered by York City academy coaches, dedicated to supporting their development as footballers and using football as a vehicle to underpin their personal and athletic development. They will also receive the rest of their core education at Thirsk School.

The new programme’s main aim is to maximise these talented young people’s love of the game and support their on-going development. As they move through the school, part of their time within the Talent Hub timetable will be used to explore different roles and careers in football that these young people may pursue.

Interested Year 5 and 6s in the area are encouraged to attend Talent ID days to find out more.

Dates: Monday 26th & Tuesday 27th of October
Times: 10 AM - 3 PM
Location: Thirsk School & Sixth Form College
Ages: Year 5 & 6

To RSVP and for more information please contact Dan Wilson (Head of Youth Development, York City Football Club) on Dan.wilson@yorkcityfootballclub.co.uk(Pictured) First team player Archie Whitfield, former Thirsk School student.

Emma Lambden, Headteacher, Thirsk School & Sixth Form College, said: “Our aim is to start the Talent Hub from September 2021 in Year 7 and then grow throughout the whole school over the coming years.

“We envisage that students at KS3 will have approximately 4 hours per week working with York City staff whilst on the school site. Eventually we hope to offer a programme that goes right through from Year 7 to Year 13 and are also open to interest from outside of our usual intake, with regard to Year 12, for September 2021.”
