U19s top scorer aiming for pro deal

23rd November 2020

York City’s under-19s top scorer, Brandon Finn says he is happy with how his progress is going so far this season.

The 18-year-old has scored five goals so far, including a second-half hat-trick in a 5-0 victory against Cleethorpes Town in the FA Youth Cup.

Finn believes he is in much better shape compared to this time a year ago and says his main goal is to break into the first team in the future.

He said: “I feel like my progress is currently going well.

“I think I have started this season much better than I did the last one.

“This time last year, I would be on the bench a lot of the time and be coming on as a substitute.

“This year I have been getting more minutes on the pitch, and because of this, I feel much fitter and stronger than I did this time 12 months ago.

“Of course, my plan is to keep on progressing as a player. The main aim for me is to get a pro contract at the end of the season. This is what I have dreamt about from a young age.”

Finn also highlighted how important under-19s manager, Tim Ryan has been to his progress so far this season.

The under-19s forward says Ryan is a big part of why he feels like he has progressed so much as a player over the past year.

Fin added: “Tim has been very important to my progress.

“He knows when to be calm, and he also knows when to be serious.

“He is constantly giving me tips on how I can improve my game.

“When we have meetings, and he tells you what you need to work on, these are the things you work on the most.

“I believe this is what has made me a better player this season than I was last season.”
