High Five for U19's against Blyth Spartans

By Bradley Saxton | 22nd April 2022

Youth Team Manager Tim Ryan was really pleased with how the U19’s conducted themselves during their league game with Blyth Spartans, after they saw off the bottom of the table side 5-0 at Wigginton Road.

Goals from Ben Dale, Luke Jones, Jonny Shepherd and a brace from Kyle Lancaster saw the Young Minstermen cruise to a comfortable victory, one which extends their unbeaten run to seven league games.

The win sees the Minstermen remain third in the National League Alliance Academy North, two points clear ahead of Chester FC, who have two games in hand on City.

Speaking after the full-time, Ryan expressed his delight after witnessing his side record five league goals in a game for the second time this season.

“The first-half performance I felt that we struggled a little bit, this was down to the wind and even though we played with it behind us in the first period, I just felt at times that we misjudged our passes and put a little on them too much”, said Ryan”

“I said to the boys at half-time try not to get frustrated, keep at what you’re trying to do and I felt the ball was really held up well against the wind in the second-half.

“We were getting lots of joy in the final-third and it didn’t really start until around the 55th minute where we started to break them down, but the second-half performance from the boys was excellent and they’ve all performed well once again.

“I say it every week and we want to ensure the boys retain the standards that we set and I thought they really took them on board today and they put in a really professional performance in that second-half.

“Results are important and obviously the standards we set, but all of the second-year scholars out there today ensured they played to their best standards.

“We also got to saw a lot from the first-year scholars, which was really pleasing to see as well ahead of next season.”

Four goals in the second-half put the game to bed for Ryan’s side and the Youth Team manager was delighted with his forwards after taking onboard what they set out to do In training earlier in the season.

Ryan added “I felt that the boys have really taken on board what myself and Dan (Wilson) have said to them recently and worked on, it’s been about getting balls into the area in the final third and I think our performance really showed that they’ve taken it on board.

“It’s always up to the forward as your main man to ensure you stick the ball in the back of the net, but I thought all of our attackers played really well today.

“Kyle (Lancaster) was on his game today and I felt that he was excellent, he deserved his two goals and I’m really pleased with his performance.

“Kieran (Clayton) also did well, as did George (Harrison) after coming on at half-time and he played some really good balls across into the area.

“Overall, I’m really happy with the boys and we move on to our final league game of the season.”

The U19’s will finish their National League Alliance Academy North season next Wednesday when they welcome FC Halifax Town to Wigginton Road in their final league game of the season (1pm kick-off).
