City set for FA Youth Cup game

By Ian Appleyard | 17th September 2018

City's youngsters make the short trip to Tadcaster Albion tonight in the first qualifying round of the FA Youth Cup (kick-off 7.45pm).

Goals from Isaac Overton, Nathan Dyer, and Aston Harrison secured a 3-1 victory for City at Handsworth Parramore in the preliminary round two weeks ago.

Albion's Under-18s, meanwhile, progressed to the first qualifying round courtesy of an 8-0 victory over Farsley Celtic.

Head of Youth Dan Wilson will be in charge of the team tonight as youth team manager Sam Collins is currently in caretaker-charge of the first team.

Wilson said: "It's an exciting one for the boys as the FA Youth Cup is a fantastic competition and they also know a few of the opposition players. The boys have done really well in our last couple games and we are looking to build on that tonight.

"You never know where you could end up playing if you progress far enough in this competition," he added. "The possibilities are endless but you have to focus on getting through the early rounds before you can start dreaming."

City squad: Binsley, Cawthorn, Dyer, Haigh, A.Harrison, R.Harrison, Henderson, D.Jackson, W.Jackson, Jebson-King, Overton, Stuart, Teale (GK), Ventura, Watson, Whitfield.

Admission to tonight's game at the i21 Stadium costs £3 adults, £1 concessions.
