Leeds United were victorious this evening at a packed out Bootham Crescent with a 5-0 victory against the Minstermen.

Steve Watson opted for two different sides in either half of City’s first pre-season friendly against their fellow Yorkshiremen who started with a strong first team to contest the new-face York squad.

And the experience showed after just 3 minutes as on-loan Manchester City player Jack Harrison found the ball at the back post after a Pablo Hernandez cross – the winger making no mistake from close range.

David Ferguson looked lively down the left wing in stages, notably skinning the Leeds left-back and forcing Casilla to punch out from an inviting cross into the box.

Moments after, Patrick Bamford rattled the woodwork after being played through and blasting from an acute angle.

On 22 minutes Kemar Roofe slotted home a well worked goal to give Leeds a two goal advantage before the Whites nearly added another through a free kick just wide of Ryan Whitley’s left post.

Leeds scored number three on 32 minutes; a run down the left wing by Bamford resulted in a pull-back to Pablo Hernandez who was lingering on the edge of the box and ready to side foot into the corner.

The Minstermen had their first effort of the game just before half time with Kallum Griffiths curling a free kick over the bar from 25 yards before Leeds went down the other end and scored a thunderbolt through Jack Harrison – his second of the game.

With City 4-0 down at the interval it was time for Steve Watson to play his second half eleven for the final 45 minutes which featured eight changes.

Pete Jameson was named between the sticks in the second half team and was called into action in the first few seconds, denying Jack Harrison a hat trick - blocking from close range.

But the new signing couldn’t keep out Adam Forshaw on 53 minutes as the midfielder beat the offside trap and neatly chipped over the former Blyth Spartans goalkeeper to make it 5-0.

It wasn’t long before Jameson was again keeping Harrison from scoring, pulling off an acrobatic save to his left on 60 minutes.

Leeds made a total of ten changes on 62 minutes, bringing on a whole new outfield set of personnel which included former York player Ryan Edmondson.

Edmondson was kept relatively quiet after his introduction, but Rafa Mujica went close late on in the game – just missing the target from a narrow angle after rounding the ‘keeper.

The final whistle blew with the final score 5-0 in favour of Leeds United, the Minstermen conceding only a single goal in the second half.
