A Kurt Willoughby wonder strike made sure City returned home with all three points at Nethermoor Park this afternoon.

John Askey made just a single change to the team which beat Blyth last week, with Bolton loanee Adam Senior starting at right back ahead of Sam Fielding.

But it was the left side which City exploited against their Yorkshire neighbours, with Kurt Willoughby causing havoc in the early stages but the Guiseley defence dealing with the low crosses into the box.

Willoughby had a free kick in a dangerous area on 18 minutes but his goalbound strike was blocked at the first hurdle, before Mark Beck's header was cleared off the line following a corner kick.

Akil Wright has been a driving force in midfield as of late and led the team on the next attack, winning the ball in the final third and drilling towards the bottom corner - only for Brad Wade to save with his fingertips.

The Lions then threatened towards the end of the first half, with Pete Jameson getting down low and saving well from Lewis Hay’s snapshot through a crowded area from the edge of the box.

Willoughby had the ball in the back of the net after latching onto a Beck flick on, but the linesman flagged for offside in a contentious decison early in the second half.

But the decision didn't deter City as Scott Barrow's long range strike was deflected wide and Beck headed the following corner inches wide at the back post on 73 minutes.

Guiseley's Prince Ekpolo smashed the crossbar two minutes later in a move that the City defence eventually cleared after a scramble in the area.

But the eventual goal came on 88 minutes, a moment of magic from Willoughby, receving a throw in from 30 yards and arrowing a strike into the top corner to send the away end into anarchy.

City saw the game out after four minutes of additional time and now sit just 1 point from the National League North playoffs.

John Askey's men travel to Gateshead on Tuesday night to try and make use of their game in hand. Kick-off is 7:45pm at the Gateshead International Stadium.
