Goals from Sean Newton and Jon Parkin secured a third consecutive league win for City today at Darlington.

Manager Martin Gray, who quit Darlington to move to Bootham Crescent three months ago, celebrated with the 780 travelling supporters at the final whistle.

His side fought back to win the contest after Reece Styche had found the net for Darlington just before the interval.

Captain Newton, back in action after a three game injury absence, equalised for City just a minute after the re-start.

The midfielder found the net with a deflected volley after an initial shot from Aidan Connolly was blocked sending the ball looping into the air.

Parkin scored the winner from the penalty spot - just six minutes later - after Connolly had been tripped by Darlington goalkeeper James Talbot. It was the veteran striker's 24th goal of the season and his eighth in the last four games.

City, buoyed by their back-to-back victories against North Ferriby United over the Christmas and New Year period, played with increased confidence from the first whistle.

Parkin was unlucky to have a 'goal' disallowed for offside in the 15th minute when he produced a smart finish to turn in a cross from Connolly.

But Darlington also had a 'goal' disallowed after 17 minutes when Styche prodded home from close range when a shot from Josef Wheatley was half-saved by Adam Bartlett.

City suffered an injury setback after 20 minutes when centreback Jonny Burn took a blow in the face from Styche and had to be replaced by Daniel Parslow.

Both sides created decent opportunities before Styche broke the deadlock in the 43rd minute with a fierce strike that flew in off the underside of the crossbar.

City, having switched to a 4-4-2 at halftime, flew out of the traps and were immediately on level terms.

Once ahead, they maintained the upper-hand and defended impressively against a number of Darlington freekicks as the second half wore on.

The margin of victory could, and probably should, have been even greater as Newton, Alex Pattison, and substitute James Gray all spurned good chances in the final 15 minutes.
