Ten-man City suffered a third defeat in a row after captain Joe Tait was sent off just 25 minutes into the game against Bradford (Park Avenue).

Tait's dismissal following an off-the-ball incident involving striker Jake Beesley also resulted in a penalty that led to Beesley giving Bradford the lead from the spot.

Bradford scored twice at the start of the second half through Beesley and Jamie Spencer to take full control of the contest.

And although Sean Newton pulled a goal back for City with a 61st minute freekick, substitute Ben McKenna added a fourth for Bradford with eight minutes to go.

Manager Sam Collins handed an instant debut in midfield to loan signing Lewis Hawkins and made four changes to the side beaten in midweek at Spennymoor Town.

Hawkins replaced Russ Penn in the centre of midfield while striker Jake Wright, centreback Tom Allan, and midfielder Josh Law were preferred to Macaulay Langstaff, Hamza Bencherif, and Wes York.

City had made a bright start to the game and dominated the early exchanges. Striker Jordan Burrow was unlucky not to score when a close-range effort brought a reflex save from goalkeeper Steven Drench and Jake Wright and Newton both had shots blocked in the area.

But the game changed in the 25th minute when City captain Tait was shown a straight red card following an off-the-ball incident with Beesley in the penalty area.

Beesley picked himself up off the floor to score from the subsequent penalty-kick and City, now reduced to 10 men, were forced into a re-shuffle with defender Bencherif coming on for midfielder Alex Harris.

City appealed in vain for a penalty just before the interval when striker Wright was challenged by Bradford captain Shane Killock.

Collins introduced striker Jon Parkin at halftime but Bradford doubled their lead almost immediately after the re-start as Beesley found room between defenders in the goalmouth to force home a low cross from Lewis Knight.

Things got worse for City minutes later as Spencer drilled an unstoppable shot into the top corner of the net from the edge of the box following a corner.

But ten-man City refused to give up the chase and gradually began to re-establish a foothold in the contest. They deservedly pulled a goal back in the 61st minute when Newton curled a left-footed freekick over the wall and into the top corner of the net

Substitute Ben McKenna shot home for Bradford at a corner in the 71st minute but the 'goal' was disallowed for offside.

However, McKenna added a fourth goal for the visitors in the 82nd minute with a shot from 15 yards after Knight seized on Tom Allan's trip and pulled the ball back into his path.

Bradford have now moved level on points with leaders Chorley while City have dropped to 15th position - six points adrift of the play-off zone.
