A PENALTY by Ashley Hemmings ended York City’s four game unbeaten run against Boston United.

City had led at the interval thanks to a stunning strike from midfielder Adriano Moke – his first goal in nearly three years.

However, Jordan Keane equalised for Boston on 54 minutes and Hemmings settled the contest from the penalty spot after City substitute Aidan Connolly had fouled James Clifton.

Loan signing Jonny Burn made his City debut at centreback with Daniel Parslow switching to rightback and Josh Law dropping to the bench.

Striker James Gray also returned to the starting line-up as a replacement for the departed Gary Martin.

City made a positive start and it needed a great save from Boston goalkeeper George Willis to deny Gray after he raced onto a long ball from David Ferguson.

Boston threatened only briefly in the first half but Hemmings lobbed narrowly wide when Adam Bartlett dashed off his line and only half cleared a back header from Burn.

City took the lead in the 19th minute when Moke unleashed an unstoppable 25-yard drive that fizzed into the top left hand corner of the net.

Having opened his goal account for the season, the City midfielder might have doubled the lead six minutes later but Adam Curry tackled as he arrived to meet a cross at the far post from Sean Newton.

Jay Rollins spurned two opportunities for Boston before the interval – heading wide at a corner and shooting wide after intercepting a loose pass from Hamza Bencherif.

The home side got back on level terms after 54 minutes as midfielder Keane scored with a low angled drive after collecting a corner from Hemmings.

City could have regained the lead on the hour mark but striker Amari Morgan-Smith’s close-range effort was pushed over the bar by Willis.

Connolly spurned an opportunity soon after when, sent clear by Jon Parkin, his shot was blocked at the near post by Willis.

The Scottish winger then fouled Boston fullback Clifton in the area in the 74th minute prompting referee Sam Barrott to award a penalty which was duly converted by Hemmings.
