Veteran striker Jon Parkin passed the 200 goal career milestone as York City beat National League North title favourites Salford City today in the second qualifying round of the FA Cup.

Parkin scored twice as City came from behind to win 2-1 at Moor Lane but they were also indebted to an impressive last minute save from goalkeeper Jon Worsnop.

Salford, who are currently second in the league table, took the lead in first half stoppage time when captain Liam Hogan headed home a Mark Shelton freekick.

They nearly doubled their advantage eight minutes into the second half when Carl Piergianni's header struck the crossbar from a Josh Askew freekick.

Just moments later, however, City were back on level terms as Parkin bagged the 200th goal of his career - converting a cross from Louis Almond at close range.

Salford hit the bar for the second time in the game after 69 minutes when substitute Jack Redshaw got on the end of a far-post cross from Richie Allen.

But the Minstermen held on and finished the game looking far stronger with Sean Newton, Hamza Bencherif, and Alex Whittle all going close.

Parkin scored the winning goal five minutes from the end - getting a touch on an Amari Morgan-Smith shot to divert the ball past Max Crocombe in the Salford goal.

City's victory was only secured, however, after Worsnop pulled off a finger-tip save in stoppage time to push Lois Maynard's shot from 18 yards onto the crossbar.

Afterwards, manager Gary Mills revealed that striker Michael Rankine - who watched from the sidelines - had not been involved in the game on medical advice due to high blood pressure.
