Jordan Burrow's late penalty completed a thrilling fightback as City won 3-2 at Alfreton Town this afternoon.

City had trailed 2-1 with only five minutes to play and Alfreton striker Reece Styche had also missed an opportunity to complete a hat-trick when blazing a penalty against the crossbar.

Alex Kempster equalised for City with a spectacular goal at a corner before referee Scott Simpson awarded a penalty in the 88th minute for a foul on substitute Jake Wright..

Burrow duly drilled home the spotkick to end City's long wait for a victory on the road.

New signing David Mirfin made an instant debut as a replacement for Joe Tait and there were recalls in midfield for , Sean Newton, Josh Law, and Kallum Griffiths.

David Ferguson, Wes York and Jake Wright dropped to the bench and Alex Kempster moved from midfield into attack.

City made a promising start and took the lead courtesy of Newton after just 11 minutes.

Playing on the left of the five man midfield, Newton sprinted into the Town area to intercept a ball that looked to be heading back to goalkeeper Sam Ramsbottom.

After taking the ball away from the goalkeeper, Newton turned back onto his left foot and curled a delightful shot over Ramsbottom and inside the far post.

Newton's threat down the left was more than apparent and he was twice unlucky to not to double City's lead.

He drilled a left foot shot inches wide of the far post in the 20th minute and moments later forced Ramsbottom into a good save low to his left.

Alfreton drew level 10 minutes before halftime when defender Tom Bradbury was penalised for pulling Styche back in the penalty area. The former Darlington striker duly tucked his penalty kick beyond the reach of goalkeeper Adam Bartlett into the bottom corner of the net.

Bradbury made amends for the penalty incident with a superb last ditch tackle soon after to block a close range shot from Bobby Johnson.

Alfreton took the lead six minutes after the interval when Styche broke clear on the City left and fired a shot inside the far post.

It could have been 'game over' for City in the 69th minute when referee Simpson awarded Alfreton a controversial second penalty.

Defender Mirfin was adjudged to have fouled Styche in a crowded area but the Town striker's penalty cannoned back off the crossbar and City were off the hook.

City hung on for a period but then began to gain fresh momentum after the introduction of substitute Wes York.

There were only five minutes remaining when striker Kempster equalised at a corner - sending a brilliant volley over his shoulder and into the top corner of the Town net.

City refused to settle for a point and Wright won a penalty in the 88th minute when he was pulled to the ground by a Town defender.

Burrow made no mistake from the spot - drilling his shot into the roof of the net -  and giving new manager Steve Watson his first victory in charge.
