City's FA Cup campaign is over despite a gutsy performance this afternoon against League Two side Swindon Town.

David Ferguson's equaliser just before the interval raised hopes of a possible first round upset after Scott Twine had put Swindon ahead just 12 minutes into the game.

But Steven Alzate won it for Swindon with just under 15 minutes to go - hitting a deflected shot past City goalkeeper Adam Bartlett in a crowded penalty area.

Loan signings Joe Davis and Alex Bray had made instant debuts and Ferguson and Nathan Dyer had both been recalled as manager Sam Collins made four changes to the side beaten 4-1 by Bradford Park Avenue in the last league game seven days ago.

Striker Jordan Burrow was handed the captaincy in the absence of the suspended Joe Tait and midfielder Reiss Harrison, 17, was a surprise inclusion on the bench.

Swindon took the lead after 12 minutes when Twine met a cross from Jermaine McGlashan and directed the ball in off the far post with a clever back-heeled finish.

Twine might have doubled the lead five minutes later but his close range volley, under pressure from Bartlett, struck the outside of the post.

City began to get a foothold in the contest and Burrow was unlucky not to equalise in the 27th minute when he turned a header from Joe Davis narrowly wide at a corner.

Although Swindon had enjoyed the majority of first half possession, City were back on level terms just before the interval courtesy of Ferguson's second goal of the season.

Burrow's header had been saved brilliantly by Chilean Under-20 international goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux but Ferguson turned home the rebound from a narrow angle.

City soaked up more Swindon pressure at the start of the second half before beginning to push back the hosts.

Burrow tested Vigouroux with an angled drive and Dyer headed wide at the far post after a good cross from Ferguson.

However, Alzate's goal rocked the Minstermen who had been defending bravely during another spell of Swindon pressure which saw Ellis Iandolo hit the side netting with a freekick and Bartlett push a shot around the post from striker Elijah Adebayo.

Keshi Anderson spurned an opportunity to add a third just a few minutes later when shooting over the bar from close-range.

City's travelling supporters showed their appreciation for the performance by applauding the players off the pitch at the final whistle.
