City moved up three places in the Vanarama National League North table after a goalless draw tonight that also prevented opponents Chester taking top spot.

New arrivals Kennedy Digie and Joe Ironside made their debuts as manager Sam Collins made two changes to the side narrowly beaten 2-1 at Swindon Town in the FA Cup last weekend.

Digie partnered Joe Davis at centreback and Sean Newton reverted to leftback in preference to David Ferguson who dropped to the bench.

Striker Ironside, meanwhile, replaced teenager Nathan Dyer who had been employed as an attacking wingback against Swindon.

City, who are now 12th in the table, made a positive start to the game with winger Alex Bray heavily involved in the final third and Digie a dominant presence at the back.

Chester fullback Dominic Smalley was booked for a foul on Bray and lucky not to pick up a second caution shortly before halftime for another foul on the young winger on the edge of the penalty box.

The visitors came closest to scoring in the 21st minute when winger Craig Mahon hit the post with six yard effort.

Smalley was substituted at halftime and along with striker Mani Dieseruvwe who had been getting no change out of Digie.

Ironside, who had headed narrowly wide in the first half, went close for City early in the second half with a downward header from a Josh Law cross.

Substitute Jon Moran was inches away from converting a Mahon cross but ended up in the back of the net as the ball sailed wide.

Griffiths tested Chester goalkeeper Grant Shenton with a shot from 25 yards but City were unable to force a winner in the final stages.

Winger Bray was deservedly awarded the Man of the Match after an impressive performance on his home debut.
