GOALS from Jordan Burrow (2) and Jake Wright sent City into the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup this afternoon.

Wingback Nathan Dyer, 17, also stepped into the limelight and was voted Man of the Match on his first senior appearance.

City's opponents St Ives Town, who are currently tenth in the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division Central, had reached the third qualifying round for the first time in their history.

It took just nine minutes for City to take the lead when striker Wright, latching onto a flick-on from Burrow, coolly slotted the ball past goalkeeper Sam Wilson.

Second year scholar Dyer had been handed a debut as a replacement for Kallum Griffiths and the Malton-born player soon settled into his wingback role, making confident advances down the flank, delivering telling crosses into the box, and creating shooting opportunities.

Town might have equalised in the 14th minute when a freekick by Robbie Parker picked out Jarvis Wilson who steered the ball wide of the post from 10 yards.

Another opportunity fell to Town when George Bailey's shot was blocked in a crowded area and, moments later, City were unlucky not to score when Simon Heslop's shot rattled the foot of a post.

City suffered an injury blow in the 34th minute when captain Joe Tait had to be replaced by Russ Penn. Midfielder Josh Law the dropped back into the defence alongside Sean Newton and the recalled Hamza Bencherif.

Burrow doubled City's lead five minutes after the interval with a powerful header from a David Ferguson cross.

The former Lincoln City and Gateshead striker scored again, just six minutes later, with an emphatic finish into the roof of the net from 15 yards after collecting a pass from Alex Harris.

City remained in firm control of the contest and should have increased their winning margin when substitute Jon Parkin volleyed wide from inside the goal area after another good cross from Ferguson.

Dyer had to limp out of the action in the 89th minute - following a challenge by Town's Sam Cartwright which led to a booking - but received warm applause from City supporters when announced as sponsors' Man of the Match.
