CITY's season ended in defeat today against play-off qualifiers Brackley Town.

A second half double from James Armson secured victory for third-placed Saints who have also progressed to the final of the FA Trophy.

City, meanwhile, have dropped to eleventh in the Vanarama National League North table and finished the season five points adrift of the play-off zone.

Things had looked promising at the halftime interval when the score was still goalless and City's three play-off rivals were all losing.

But Armson scored twice and also hit the woodwork in the second half as Brackley took control of the contest.

Substitute Jon Parkin had an 'equaliser' ruled out for an alleged push in the 61st minute but even a City victory would not have been enough to rescue the club's season.

For seventh-placed Bradford Park Avenue fought back from a goal down to beat Kidderminster Harriers 2-1 and have secured the final remaining play-off place.

Spennymoor Town also staged a second half revival against Southport but missed out on play-off qualification on goal difference.

Manager Martin Gray had made two changes with Clovis Kamdjo replacing the injured Simon Heslop and Connor Smith preferred to Aidan Connolly.

Kamdjo made his first start since recovering from a cruciate knee ligament injury suffered 17 months ago.

Striker Parkin, meanwhile, was a surprise inclusion on the bench just a month after minor knee surgery.

City should have taken the lead after 13 minutes but captain Sean Newton shot wide from 12 yards after good work by Connor Brown and Smith.

Newton also failed to take advantage of a good opportunity nine minutes before halftime when he opted to step over a low cross from Moke, rather than shoot, which allowed Brackley to clear the danger.

City goalkeeper Adam Bartlett was called upon to make only one first half save - when blocking an early shot in the mud from Aaron Williams.

Brackley midfielder Armson was unlucky not score in the 44th minute when curling the ball over from the edge of the area after Shane Byrne skipped past Adrianon Moke's challenge near the byline.

City's first half frustration was compounded by the news that all three play-off rivals were losing in their respective fixtures at halftime.

Armson gave Brackley the lead when planting a shot inside Bartlett's right-hand post  from 12 yards.

He doubled the home side's advantage ten minutes from the end, scoring in similar fashion after striker Lee Ndlovu got beyond defender Daniel Parslow.
