CITY suffered a 3-0 defeat at Altrincham this afternoon in Vanarama National League North.

Manager Sam Collins had named an unchanged side for the first time since taking charge and was looking to build on positive displays against Swindon Town and Chester in the previous two fixtures.

However, after a goalless first half, Josh Hancock broke the deadlock in the 57th minute and City conceded two further goals in the final eight minutes of the game.

Goalscoring opportunities had been thin on the ground in the first half although goalkeeper Adam Bartlett tipped a shot from Altrincham's John Johnston onto the crossbar and City striker Jordan Burrow had a header hacked off the line by Connor Hampson.

Play-off chasing Altrincham took command after the interval and Hancock forced Bartlett into a flying save.

Defender Thomas Hannigan narrowly failed to get his head on a cross from Johnston who then dragged a 25 yard drive wide.

City's on loan winger Alex Bray tested Altrincham goalkeeper Anthony Thompson in the 56th minute but his attempted chip from a tight angle was clawed away.

Altrincham took the lead just moments afterwards as Hancock volleyed into the roof of the net following a deflected cross from Owen Dale.

Collins sent on substitutes Macaulay Langstaff, Alex Harris, and Jon Parkin but the changes failed to unsettle Altrincham who scored two further goals in the final eight minutes of the game.

Moult drilled a low shot into the bottom corner of the net after City failed to clear a corner and Hancock added the third in the 90th minute when curling a 15-yard shot round Bartlett after exchanging passes with Jordan Hulme.
