York City sign Sam Fishburn on loan from Fleetwood Town

York City are delighted to confirm the signing of forward Sam Fishburn on a youth loan from League One side Fleetwood Town.

The 20-year-old will stay with the Minstermen until the end of the season from the Fishermen.

Fishburn joined Fleetwood Town’s Development Squad on a one-year contract in the summer of 2023, with the club holding an option for a further year.

Prior to joining Fleetwood the centre-forward, who was born in Gateshead, joined Carlisle United’s youth setup in 2020.

After impressing throughout a prolific under-18s season, The Cumbrians offered Fishburn a two-year professional deal.

The deal also ensured that he continued with scholarship education commitments, but enabled the forward to play with the senior squad when called upon.

A first taste of senior football came out on loan at Lancaster City in the summer of 2021. Fishburn joined on loan in August until January 2022, and netted eight goals in nine games for the Northern Premier League Premier Division side, which saw a recall clause triggered as early as September.

A senior debut with club Carlisle, in the EFL Trophy, was made in September 2022, featuring in a 2-0 victory against Everton U23s.

His debut in the Football League was just around the corner, coming off the bench in a 2-2 draw away to Newport County a month later.

National League North outfit Blyth Spartans acquired the services of the forward initially in July 2022, however the forward then moved to Morpeth Town until the end of the season in September.

In total Fishburn made 15 appearances across competitions for Carlisle, with nine of those coming in League Two, before switching to Fleetwood last summer.

Welcome to the Minstermen, Sam!
