City suffered defeat at Boston United this afternoon after conceding two second half goals.

Manager Sam Collins made two changes for the Vanarama National League North fixture with Lewis Hawkins and Macaulay Langstaff replacing Alex Bray and the injured Jake Wright.

Goalkeeper Adam Bartlett pushed away a freekick from Ben Davies in the opening two minutes but goalscoring opportunities were thin on the ground during an evenly-matched first half.

Boston midfielder Liam Agnew fizzed a 25-yard drive inches wide of the top corner after 33 minutes and his side survived two scares in the space of a minute immediately afterwards.

Goalkeeper George Willis needed to back-peddle to punch a header from his own player over the crossbar and, from the resulting corner, City striker Jordan Burrow sent a downward header bouncing wide of the post.

Adriano Moke also flashed a powerful 25 yard drive wide as City finished the first half in the ascendancy.

Bartlett made a flying save to deny Davies soon after the interval and City striker Macaulay Langstaff forced Boston goalkeeper Willis into a save at his near post.

Boston took the lead in the 51st minute as winger Nicky Walker slotted a home a ball across the City area by Max Wright.

City should have fallen further behind two minutes later but Agnew managed to scoop the ball over the crossbar after a low cross from Gavin Allott.

Midfielder Kallum Griffiths was booked for a late challenge on Wright which briefly sparked a melee involving players from both sides on the touchline.

Allott doubled Boston's lead in the 63rd minute - and again the goal resulted from a run and cross by Wright on the left hand side of City's penalty area.

The final 15 minutes were played out in heavy rain and with Boston attempting to slow the game down at every opportunity.

It also coincided with City's best spell of the afternoon although five good opportunities went begging in the wet conditions.

A goalbound shot from Bray was deflected wide, Kennedy Digie headed over the top at a corner, and substitute Wes York failed to get enough on a header from a Bray cross.

Burrow hung his head in disbelief after missing the target from six yards following a Bray cross and the City striker was out of luck again in stoppage time as Willis got down to save his angled drive.
