City managed a 1-1 draw against Southport this afternoon, the Minstermen coming from a goal behind to extend their unbeaten run to ten games.

City were hit with an injury concern before kick-off which led to Macaulay Langstaff being called upon to replace Jordan Burrow in the front line of attack.

York had developed a habit of scoring first in recent games. However, were starstruck when Southport drew first blood at Bootham Crescent; David Morgan firing a thunderbolt high into the back of the net from far out.

Griffiths had a great chance to equalise on 14 minutes, Kempster squaring to the wing-back who took a touch in the area and then hit his shot into a yellow shirt, winning a corner.

City tried from distance in the following moments, Andy Bond forcing a save from a well-stuck attempt from 25-yards and Sean Newton curling a free kick up and over the wall but straight into Dan Hanford’s hands.

Both Raul Correia and Joe Tait had a clash of heads on 40 minutes and City were down to 10-men whilst the centre-half received treatment.

Despite being low on numbers City managed a vital equaliser on 44 minutes – the ball landing to Alex Kempster in the box and the top goal scorer slotting home to level the game.

Joe Tait finally got back onto the field a minute later and City ended the half honours even.

City were first to go close in the second half, David Ferguson racing down the left wing, fizzing a ball across goal and narrowly missing the back post straight from kick-off.

Zehn Mohammed had a good opportunity on 50 minutes, the full-back latching onto a squared ball and then forcing Jameson to save at his near post.

Pete Jameson had made some great saves in recent games and was on form again as he tipped over a Jack Doyle attempt from distance which was heading for the top corner.

It was apparent throughout that Southport were happy with a draw as the Sandgrounders dropped like flies, the physio getting a good run out in the second half.

City threatened in the latter stages with an array of corners which were well dealt with by the Southport defence – a back line in which had only conceded seven goals prior to the contest.

Four minutes were added for injury time and City couldn’t capitalise with the game ending a goal apiece – the second successive draw, but York still the only team in the division to have not lost a game this season.
