Promotion rivals York City and Spennymoor Town shared the spoils in a thrilling 2-2 draw this afternoon at Bootham Crescent.

Although City were denied a sixth consecutive win, they extended their unbeaten to run six games and remain fourth in the Vanarama National League North table.

Defender Connor Brown, who has joined the club on loan from Guiseley until the end of the season, made his debut at rightback with Josh Law dropping to the bench.

City took the lead after eleven minutes - defender Jonny Burn smashing the ball into the roof of the net when Town failed to deal with Simon Heslop's corner to the far post.

It was the 18th game in a row that City had found the target and maintained the record of a goal in every game since manager Martin Gray's appointment on October 1.

Striker Raul Correia might have doubled City's advantage in the 33rd minute after running onto a pass from Connolly and beating Town's offside trap.

Correia showed good composure to take the ball around Town goalkeeper Jordan Porter but his goalbound shot was blocked by the despairing lunge of defender Chris Mason.

Town, who had also won their last five games, found goalscoring opportunities hard to come by - although Burn needed to hack the ball off the goalline when Tait put the ball into the danger-zone at a corner on 18 minutes.

Referee Martin Woods booked three players in the final five minutes of the first half - Heslop and David Ferguson for City and centreback Joe Tait for Spennymoor.

Tait was booked for two raised foot challenges into Jon Parkin's face in a matter of minutes - the first of which left the City striker nursing a cut mouth.

City suffered a blow at the interval when midfielder Heslop was forced out of the action by a muscle injury.

Town made a strong start to the second half and their pressure eventually paid off in the 52nd minute when Ryan Hall equalised with a deflected shot that wrong-footed goalkeeper Adam Bartlett.

Midfielder Aidan Connolly restored City's lead in the 72nd minute when meeting a far post cross from Adriano Moke.

However, Town equalised again at a corner five minutes later - Glen Taylor's initial header was blocked on the line but substitute Andrew Johnson forced home the rebound.

City goalkeeper Adam Bartlett made a stunning late save to keep out a freekick from Mark Anderson and safeguarded a share of the points.

Anderson's shot was fizzing towards the top corner of the net but Bartlett managed to stretch far enough and push the ball around the post.
