City fell to their second successive defeat at the hands of league leaders Brackley Town this afternoon, a single first half goal giving the Saints all three points.

John Askey made one change from the defeat on Tuesday night with Jack McKay coming in for Sam Sanders who dropped to the bench as City changed back to their familiar 4-3-3 formation.

The game began in a sunny South Northamptonshire and the home side were basking in the sunshine with the majority of the possession in the first half.

Just 7 minutes in the Saints had a chance with a dinked ball in following a cleared long throw which made its way to Jaanai Gordon, who directed towards goal and forced Jameson to block for a corner at his front post.

New City signing Maz Kouhyar started his second game at the top of the midfield three and looked the liveliest for the Minstermen - creating chances for his team.

The Afghan international took on two players on the left wing before the ball made its way across to Dyson whose tame effort made it through a crowded area but straight into Danny Lewis’ hands.

And City paid the price for their rued chances just two minutes later when a looped corner found the head of Jimmy Armson who was unmarked at the back post and made no mistake to open the scoring on 27 minutes.

City could have levelled the score on 38 minutes, Kouhyar again doing his magic in midfield before slotting through John-Lewis who expertly rounded the goalkeeper before his effort was somehow clawed out and his follow up from the byline curled into the side netting.

The second half started with Brackley’s Connor Franklin gifted a chance from a corner as he headed goalbound at the back post again unmarked but this time Jameson managing to pull off a save to save his team’s blushes.

Just past the hour mark Jaanai Gordon’s fantastic first touch allowed him an effort on goal from right of the box, firing towards the top corner before Jameson palmed away for a corner which was subsequently headed inches over the crossbar by captain Gareth Dean.

City had their chances later in the game and attacked well, bombarding the Saints with an onslaught of crosses into the box.

Notably Scott Barrow nearly found the head of John-Lewis who was steaming through the middle of the box, but his cross was inches in front of the forward who would have looked certain to score.

Brackley managed the game out well and recorded another 1-0 victory, a team who are consistent with their 14th replica scoreline this season, which keeps them top of the table.

City now turn their attentions to Chorley on Tuesday night, a win propelling the club back into a playoff place and back on track.
