City squandered a two goal lead this afternoon and allowed Boston United a share of the spoils at Bootham Crescent.

First half goals from Sean Newton and Macaulay Langstaff had put City firmly in command with 30 minutes to play but striker Jay Rollins reduced the deficit and Max Wright equalised in the 78th minute.

Manager Steve Watson had made two changes to the side that lost to Altrincham a fortnight ago - strikers Langstaff and Jon Parkin replacing Alex Kempster and and Wes York.

City also switched formation as Watson employed an attacking 4-2-4 line-up that saw Scott Burgess and Patrick McLaughlin operating in the centre of the park.

After a closely contested first 24 minutes, City took the lead courtesy of a sensational Newton freekick.

Former City midfielder Nicky Wroe fouled Parkin 25 yards out and Newton curled an unstoppable shot over the wall and in off the crossbar.

It was another freekick that led to City doubling their advantage in the 38th minute - after Parkin had been fouled by former City trialist Ryan Cresswell.

Parkin's low shot was only half saved by goalkeeper Willis and Langstaff tucked home the loose ball.

City might have increased their lead just after the interval but McLaughlin shot inches wide from the edge of the area after Cresswell had blocked a shot from Burrow.

Boston then began to get a foothold in the contest and pushed City back.

Ryan Qualter shot wide when unmarked on the edge of the area and goalkeeper Adam Bartlett blocked a shot from Wright with his knees.

Rollins reduced the deficit by scoring from close-range on the hour mark after Nicky Walker beat David Mirfin to a loose ball in the box and turned the ball goalwards.

Wright then levelled for Boston in the 78th minute - curling the ball past Bartlett with neat shot on the turn from the edge of the box.

City reverted to a 4-3-3 for the final 30 minutes and should have regained the lead with seven minutes to play.

Boston goalkeeper Willis was unable to hold a freekick from Newton at his near-post but substitute Wes York could only hit the loose ball wide from inside the six yard box.
