City finished their pre-season campaign with a convincing 3-0 victory over Notts County with goals from Akil Wright, Jake Cassidy, and Alex Wollerton.

Steve Watson's men started the game with dominance in possession, Akil Wright dictating most of the play at Meadow Lane in the early stages.

A pivotal moment in the game happened on the 13th minute after a County forward pushed through on goal but City 'keeper Pete Jameson pulled off a great one-on-one block to keep the scores level.

Two minutes later Wright got on the end of a first time cross from the right-hand side, rose above his man, and headed into the bottom corner.

Jake Cassidy made it two on 23 minutes after a Michael Woods tackle allowed Olly Dyson to push forward and play in Cassidy, who curled high into the corner from just outside the box.

Scott Barrow had a good game on the left-wing and put in an array of crosses, one just over the head of Michael Duckworth who was coming in at the back post.

County then had two crosses into the box back to back which was well dealt with by the three-man defence of Kennedy, Tinkler and Newton.

City went into the break two goals up after controlling the first 45 minutes.

Duckworth fancied his chances early in the half with a long-range volley which was blocked, and County then went close with a free header glanced wide.

After, City nearly got their third with two thunderbolt strikes, the latter Scott Barrow arrowing towards the bottom corner with his left peg - both well saved by Luke Pilling.

The good passing display continued later in the game and nearly assisted another goal with Dyson receiving the ball on the edge, turning and shooting towards goal - County blocking at last-ditch.

Dyson nearly won a penalty a minute later when Tinkler put a second ball back in the box, straight to the attacking midfielder who was seemingly pushed in the back before pushing a header wide.

County had their chances later in the game but failed to get a shot on target with City defending well and wayward crosses slowing the game down.

A defensive error gifted City their third goal and Alex Wollerton pounced with his first in red and blue after signing from Barnsley. The 20-year-old slotted the ball calmly past the goalkeeper after going through one-on-one with just seven minutes left.

City saw the game out after their final goal and now go into the FA Cup second round qualifying with confidence and a winning momentum which will serve the team well with the first league game just a week on Tuesday.
