Keeping Giant Signed In Summer

Goalkeeper Jason Mooney signed for the Minstermen in June 2014.

The tallest man to date to play for York, Jason stands 6 feet, 9 inches tall which makes him amongst the tallest professional footballers in this history of the game!

Jason arrived on a two year deal having turned down terms at Tranmere, his previous club and second club in England, having started playing football in Ireland for Ards and Bangor amongst others. His first taste of professional football came when he was snapped up by Wycombe Wanderers, then sent out on loan to Oxford City, where he played a full season in goal and helped them win promotion into the Conference.

Jason came to the professional game late, having played football on an amateur basis and at 25 is looking to make up for lost time by pushing Michael Ingham all the way for a start in between the sticks during the 2014-15 season.

Excellent at commanding his box and instructing his defenders, and someone who believes working with coaching staff of the quality of Andy Collett, City’s GK coach, can only improve his game, Jason has self-belief and confidence that can only help his cause as he looks to really take strides in his professional career.
