Gaffer's verdict: "We dictated and dominated"

York City manager Gary Mills spoke to the media following the team's impressive 5-0 victory at Bradford Park Avenue.

"It's lovely for the fans," said Mills. "They have turned up in numbers and haven't seen that (5-0) in a long time. We have got to build on that. We dictated, dominated, wanted to score, and kept a clean sheet. Overall, I am really pleased.

"Goal difference is always there," he added. "So it's important that we keep clean sheets and score as many goals as we can. We have conceded one goal in three games now which is good to see and we have created chances. Long may it continue."

Goals from Daniel Parslow, Amari Morgan-Smith (2), Sean Newton and Luca Havern (OG) secured a victory that lifted City up to fifth in the Vanarama National League North table ahead of Tuesday night's home game against second-placed Darlington.

Although summer signing Louis Almond was not among the goalscorers, the striker played a part in all five City goals and Mills described his performance as 'immense.'

"He pulled up in training on Friday saying his legs were aching! I said to him 'It's because you have never worked as hard in your life. I thought he was our best player today," commented Mills.

"Louis has not worked hard enough in his career. He knows that. I am not saying something he doesn't know. But I have told him that I will make him into a player just by working him hard.

"He has got ability and he has got to have discipline within that. He was immense today. At 25, he has got his best years ahead of him. But he has wasted a few years and I think he knows that as well."

Defender Hamza Bencherif, meanwhile, was sent off for a second bookable offence late in the game after pulling back former City striker Adam Boyes.

Mills said: "Hamza's got to boot the thing out of the ground rather than trying to come away with it as a centrehalf on that pitch. It's decision making and a decision has cost him a sending-off."
