Worsnop back on the Avenue

By Ian Appleyard | 11th August 2017

York City goalkeeper Jon Worsnop is looking forward to returning to Bradford Park Avenue tomorrow.

Bradford-born Worsnop has enjoyed three seperate spells at his hometown club (2005-2006, 2007-09, and 2016-17).

The former Chester City stopper helped tomorrow's opponents avoid relegation from National League North last season but opted to quit this summer for a full-time deal at Bootham Crescent.

"It's always nice to go back to an old club where you are a bit of a familiar face," he said. "It's a great, friendly club and I am looking forward to it. But it will be a challenge and it will be tough.

"I am a local lad from Bradford so I would like to think I will get a good reception from the fans," he said. "I have always done well when I have gone there and I keep in contact with a lot of people there.

"It's a good time to go there," he added. "The pitch will be playable, nice and flat, and it may suit us a lot better than it would do come December when it's wet, windy, and bobbly."

Worsnop, now 34, started his career at Bradford City with Avenue manager Mark Bower - who later made 40 appearances for York City during two seperate loan spells at Bootham Crescent in 2000 and 2001.

City's game at Bradford Park Avenue tomorrow (kick-off 3pm) is ALL TICKET and there is no admission on the turnstiles. Tickets for City supporters are still on sale at Bootham Crescent until 4.30pm on Friday.
