City Start With A Win

Farsley Celtic v York City
By Phil Howden | 7th July 2017

The Minstermen made a winning start to their pre-season campaign with a comfortable 4-1 victory at Throstle Nest against Farsley Celtic.

The whole squad who were fit to play got a run out, and manager Gary Mills will be pleased with the way his team performed in the hot sunshine in West Yorkshire.

It was stalwart Daniel Parslow who opened the scoring with a far post header from a Sean Newton cross, and Jon Parkin added a second goal, tucking the ball into the corner of the net on 21 minutes.

The home side, who played some good stuff in patches, pulled a goal back before a great cross from Simon Heslop was finished by Parkin to take City into the half-time interval 3-1 to the good.

After multiple changes, City played some bright football in the second half and, on 52 minutes, Kaine Felix added a fourth and final goal to give York a 4-1 win.

There was a tremendous turnout from the Minster city in a crowd of 411, and next up Gary Mills' men face Scunthorpe United on Wednesday night at Bootham Crescent (kick off 7pm).
