YORK CITY hit five goals without reply against part-timers Bradford Park Avenue and moved up to fifth in the National League North table.

Goals from Daniel Parslow, Amari Morgan-Smith (2), Sean Newton, and Luca Havern (OG) made it two wins out of three for Gary Mills’ side, whose next game is against second placed Darlington at Bootham Crescent on Tuesday night.

The only disappointment for the Minstermen today was the dismissal of defender Hamza Bencherif for a second bookable offence in the 73rd minute.

City took the lead after just three minutes when Parslow met a Louis Almond freekick with a header from six yards.

Striker Morgan-Smith doubled City’s advantage in the 12th minute with a cool angled finish (pictured above) beyond the goalkeeper after running onto a ball in the area.

City had complete control of the game and captain Newton fired into the side-netting after running onto a flick from Rankine.

Morgan-Smith scored his second goal of the game to make it 3-0 in the 26th minute. The striker pounced from six yards after Bradford goalkeeper Steven Drench only half saved a shot from Almond following a good run and cross by Alex Whittle.

Bencherif, booked for a trip on Bradford striker Wayne Brooksby, was unlucky not to score in the 31st minute when his header was snatched of the line by goalkeeper Drench under pressure from Rankine.

But City scored again, just moments later, as Newton met a low cross from Almond to fire home from six yards out.

City increased their lead to 5-0 in the 69th minute when Almond’s cross was headed past his own goalkeeper by Bradford defender Havern.

With three points just about guaranteed, there was a setback for City when Bencherif picked up a second yellow card and was sent off for pulling back striker Adam Boyes with 17 minutes to play.

Substitute Kaine Felix nearly added a sixth goal near the end but his close range header was brilliantly saved by Drench.

Fit-again striker Michael Rankine made his first appearance of the season for City as a replacement for Jon Parkin who missed the game with a calf injury. Winger Aidan Connolly was an unused substitute after recovering from calf surgery in the summer.

Nearly 850 fans had followed City to the Horsfall Stadium and the travelling contingent made up the large majority of the 1,133 attendance.

Only three teams in the division still boast a 100 per cent record after three games of the season: Brackley Town, Darlington, and Southport.
