City Draw With Iron

York City's first home pre-season run out ended in a draw when League 1 visitors Scunthorpe United staged a second half comeback to draw 2-2 in a good game at Bootham Crescent.

Playing on home turf for the first time since that fateful afternoon against Forest Green in April, City started brightly and, with only six minutes played, new signing Louis Almond opened his account for the club when he fired into the net from close range after an Amari Morgan-Smith knockdown was narrowly missed by Jon Parkin.

Although City had the better of the first half, Jon Parkin and Adriano Moke both coming close, Scunthorpe also created chances to equalise with striker Paddy Madden denied by new City keeper Jon Worsnop, and Jonny Margetts missing an open goal on 35 minutes.

The second half was a different story but, again, it was City who got on the scoresheet when a long throw from Sam Muggleton was headed in by substitute Michael Rankine on 49 minutes.

After a number of younger players and trialists entered the fray, the visitors got back into the game with two goals in the space of three minutes as former City man Neal Bishop stabbed home for the first, and Hakeeb Adelakun forced his way in from the right to equalise past Luke Simpson.

All in all an excellent work out for both teams and there is plenty of optimism that both York and Scunthorpe can have a successful season.
