Bradford Park Avenue match information

BPA v York City
By Ian Appleyard | 10th August 2017

York City's next fixture is away at Bradford Park Avenue on Saturday afternoon in Vanarama National League North (kick-off 3pm).

The Minstermen have never previously visited the Horsfall Stadium but played against Park Avenue regularly during the 1950s and 1960s in the Football League.

This will be the first competitive meeting between the two clubs since December 13, 1969, when a crowd of 3,084 watched City lose 2-0 at Park Avenue in a Division Four game.

Avenue manager Mark Bower made 40 appearances for York during two loan spells from Bradford City in 2000 and 2001.

At that stage, Bower was starting out in the game but the defender subsequently went on to make nearly 250 appearances for Bradford City during a 12 year career at Valley Parade.

Speaking to the Bradford Telegraph & Argus this week, Bower said: “I had a couple of spells there (York) as a player 15 to 20 years ago and it's heartbreaking to see them out of the league.

"I got great experience at the club. It was my first taste of regular league football and what I learned there was valuable to me throughout my own playing career.

"It’s really sad to see them at this level from a personal point of view - but it’s great for our club and our players to be playing games like this," he added.

Park Avenue opened the new season with a 1-0 victory at Tamworth last weekend before losing 2-1 at home to Southport on Monday night.
