Second straight victory and clean sheet for Under-18s...

YORK CITY U18s: 1 (Haswell, 39')

AARON Haswell's third goal in as many games sealed a tight 1-0 victory for York City's Under-18s against Lincoln City at Wigginton Road on Saturday morning.

City were unlucky not to score more times in the game, with striker Ryan Edmondson twice hitting the woodwork against the Imps.

A well-organised defensive unit kept Lincoln's chances to a minimum, as City recorded their first Youth Team victory against their opponents since April 2014, and breaks a run of four consecutive 1-1 draws between the teams.

The Young Minstermen burst out of the blocks in the match, with an appeal for a penalty turned down inside the first minute after Noah Jackson was brought down in the penalty area, followed quickly by a cross from Alex Bruton finding the head of Brad Freer, whose effort sailed over the bar.

City held the ball well throughout the first half despite tough playing conditions on a pitch that had taken a lot of rain in the week, and the central defensive triplet of Joe Kemp, Josh Rogerson and captain Aaron Brettell marshalled the Lincoln strikers well, keeping their chances to a minimum.

The breakthrough came six minutes before half-time, with wing-back Jackson cutting in from the left hand side, providing the assist for a second consecutive week for Haswell as he slotted into the far corner from 15 yards.

The Youth Team almost doubled their lead as soon as the whistle blew for the start of the second half, with an immediate attacking run finding Edmondson, whose effort rebounded off the upright to keep City's advantage to just one goal.

Edmondson followed this with a superbly struck volley on the turn near the edge of the area, but his shot rattled the crossbar, and the 15-year-old was unlucky not to add his name to the score-sheet on the day.

Lincoln tried to force their way back into proceedings as the second half wore on in their search for an equaliser, but the City defence stood firm and nullified any threat posed by the visiting strikers, limiting their efforts to long-range shooting.

Next up for the Under-18s is another home match in the Youth Alliance League Northeast Division, as they welcome Chesterfield's Under-18s to Wigginton Road next Saturday morning, with kick-off at 11.00am.
